Jason James appointed Youth Crime Practice Leader for Wyndham Law Courts

We are pleased the appointment of Jason James as practice leader of MJR Youth Crime Group. Jason brings a wealth of experience to the role and is on the Victorian Legal Aid Youth Crime Panel as a certifier in both summary and indictable youth crime.

Jason James was admitted in February of 2020. He joined MJR Criminal Lawyers initially in 2021 before working at Victorian Legal Aid in 2022.

In 2023, Jason returned to the firm as in-house counsel and is primarily involved in appearing in contested hearings, contested bail applications, committal hearings as well as pleas and appeals in the County Court of Victoria. His primary area is within indictable crime, and he enjoys a reputation as a dynamic and thoughtful advocate.

Jason will continue in his role as in-house and will also spend more time focusing on Youth Crime in the Western suburbs. He is available to assist in all matters in the Wyndham Law Courts and Children’s Courts in Melbourne and Wyndham.

Representing young people in the Children’s Court is a particularly nuanced area of law requiring experience, understanding and dedication. Our goal is to assist young people by emphasising strong advocacy, support and rehabilitation in order to divert them from a potential life of crime. This is an area of law that Jason is passionate about (it is what motivated him to study law and become an advocate) and we congratulate him on his appointment.
